The Agness-Illahe Museum’s fundraiser, the Sourdough, Chili, and Pie Contests was an enjoyable and fun event held on the grounds of the Old Agness Store Last Saturday, August 1, 2009. Again, the Board of Directors of the Agness-Illahe Museum wish to thank all of the individuals and businesses in Gold Beach and Coos Bay for their generous donations to help make this yearly events so successful!!!

Thank you members of the Agness Fire Department who were at the Old Agness Store at 7 am on Friday to put up three tents for the Museum’s  fund raiser. Special thanks go out to Terrence Graves and Delane as well as Rich and Susi Armstrong for their unending support and help with loading, getting tables and chairs, cooking, taking charge of the silent auction and other jobs. It couldn’t have been done without your help! Also, thank you for the children for all of their assistance and transporting many boxes of food, prizes, and silent auction items.

Thank you to Jim and Lyn Boniface from Pistol River and to Joe Donahue from Brookings who graciously acted as judges for the sourdough, chili, and pie entries. They did a lot of tasting, judging, and tallying scores to come to unanimous decisions about the best entries.

Also, thank you to Teri Durham of Singing Springs for making some peach cobblers and for the apple crumb cobbler. They were delicious. Thank you to the folks at Lucas Lodge for assisting in the making of “spicy” chili, Whew!!

Congratulations to Alice Carpenter who won first, second, and third in the pie contests. She took first for her berry pie, second for her peach pie, and third for her chocolate cream pie. Alice also won first and third place in the sourdough contest while Angela Jantzer won second place. The award for first place was $100 dollars, $50 for second, and $25 for third place. Way to go, everyone!!!

The top award in the chili contest went to Millie Doyle, second place went to Jackie Christiansen, and third place went to Rick Warnken.

The winner of the men’s doubles horseshoe contest were Roger Kline and Paul Brousseau who edged out previous winners to capture the $50 prize and individual engraved trophies.

The “highlight” of last Saturday’s activities was the fabulous Ferguson Brothers Band and everyone remarked how awesome they played and sand many of the ‘classic rock’ songs of the Sixties. Mike Ferguson played the drums, Dan Delaney was on keyboard, Johnny Lightnin’ Chadwick sang the many songs, and Chris Mealue played the bass guitar.

The Sourdough, Chili, and Pie Contests were a very successful and profitable Agness-Illahe Museum fund raiser. Thank you for your attendance and support.
