Join the Agness-Illahe Museum

Dear Present and Future Museum Members:

It is now time to join or renew your yearly dues for 2010 of the Agness-Illahe Museum. We are beginning our seventeenth year of operation and the Museum is kept open seven days a week by dedicated volunteers with hours from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. If you would like to volunteer one day a week or more, please call 247-7960.

The Two-Mile Petroglyph Interpretive fiberglass embedded sign purchased through a grant from the Collins Foundation helps to explain the marking and the history on the seven ancient rocks estimated to be 4,000 to 8,000 years old that are housed on the Museum grounds.

Our most popular exhibits are: Native American basket collection donated in memory of Ted McKenzie; large tapered cedar root basket in memory of Mary Smedburg, founder of the first hospital in Curry County, Oregon; the fly fishing exhibit created by Bob Perkins, Bob Holden, and Tim O’Dwyer; Indian artifacts; the 100 year old washing machine; the 1939 33 1/3 HP Evinrude, 4 cylinder outboard motor like the one Glen Wooldridge made on his famous run up the Salmon River; and a Teammates exhibit with baseballs signed by Bob Doerr, Ted Williams, Dom Dimaggio, and Johnny Pesky, the Teammates book signed by three of the players including a mitt, and other memorabilia. Two new fishing poles have been added to the collection and the fishing guide and boat builder exhibit has also been completed and place on the flip chart.

Our biggest expense is insurance, plus Gold Coast Security, telephone, historical books for sale, two different filings with the State of Oregon, and miscellaneous expenses. We exist solely by our yearly dues, donations, and the yearly fund raiser. Mark August 7th on your calendar as the date for the sourdough, chili, and pie contests plus a men’s and women’s doubles horseshoe contest, and a coloring contest for children 1-10 years of age. The Museum has a 501 ©3 filing and all donations are tax deductible.

Good News! The Curry County Commissioners have submitted a letter of intent to the US Forest Service to purchase the property to preserve the Agness-Illahe Museum.

Respectfully,

Linda Graves,
President
